One of the things I love about the Christmas season is the decorating. Abidjan city does not disappoint in this area. The city is covered in an array of lights during this season. In years past, the decorating has always started in November by the time December rolls around the city is so beautiful that one does not mind the terrible traffic in the evening since they is more than enough eye candy. This year however, November came and went and there was no sign of lights. Word on the grapevine is they will be on from mid December to mid January. However, from what we are seeing so far they will not match the displays we have had in the past years.

Reflecting on how we look forward to this display of lights reminded me of a scripture that says
\”I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.\”
We can all agree that today there are so many points of light that compete for our attention. The challenges are too many. Whether it is a way of life that promises you well being or a diet with possibilities for quick results and little effort the choices seem endless. What is comforting however is the comprehension that Jesus whose birth we celebrate at Christmas time offers us an everlasting light, one that will ensure we \”never walk alone\”. He offers us his presence, protection and guidance. This is a prerequisite each day of our lives. We need to master the art of hearing that still small voice that says \”this is the way walk in it\”.
Given that Jesus Christ is the light of life, we can be sure that he will always light our paths and illuminate our way. We should not fear what lies ahead or how the events of the future will unfold, ours is to maintain our trust in the one who was called Emmanuel which means \”God is with us\”.
This Christmas season and thereafter, let us remember to focus on the true light that is ever present and can be relied upon and that is our saviour Jesus Christ. Hillsong puts it beautifully in the words of this song youtu.be/NMj7Aprgvjk
