7 Ways to Get Your Life Organised & Achieve Your Desired Results

I love the month of September! To me, it always brings a second chance to get your life organized and go after the goals you set for the year. I think it has to do with the fact that some schools begin the school year in September. This brings a feeling of fresh starts. In keeping with this spirit, I thought I would share 7 ways in which you can organize your life and achieve the results you crave.

Let me begin with a disclaimer. When I talk about organizing your life, I am not referring to having a tidy house that is spotless. Although this is also a good thing. What I am referring to is having systems in place that enable you to achieve your desired results.

#1. The first way to organize your life is to have written goals

I used to be among those people who reasoned, I knew what I wanted to achieve in life and did not have to write it down. However, ever since I started being intentional with my goals and writing them down, I am registering success.

Good goal setting begins with having a big picture of what you desire. I like to break this picture into what I call my focus 5 for the year. After this, I break down my big 5 into small chunks which I can work on every quarter. From the quarter I move to the month and then the week and finally the day. It may seem like a lot but when you have systems you can do it. Check out my resources page where I have templates like a goal setting worksheet, a monthly planner, a weekly planning sheet and a daily to-do list. They are free to download and will help you do this.

#2. The second way to organize your life is to always stick to your   plan

Once you have done the work and created your roadmap by setting your goals. Try as much as possible to stick to it. This, in essence, means live with focus. Avoid getting sidetracked by other things that may seem enticing. If you can work them into your plan well and good do so. However, if it is going to require you to take a complete turn around I would advise that you go slow. It is true that we plan but life does happen. This is why it is good to always break the plan into small chunks. I always advise people to \”think big but plan small.\” Over I have come to rely on my 12 week year system and it never disappoints me.

I cannot tell you enough how important it is that you begin the week with a plan of action. Get into a habit of either at the end of the week or at the beginning of the week to plan for the week ahead. This will keep you organized and increase your productivity. It will allow you to begin the week with intention and focus and leave room for the unexpected that does happen. On Sundays, I like to jump start my week by getting my life organized for the week.

#3. The third way to organize your life is to put in place routines

When you think about it, our life is nothing but a repetition of events. We tend to do the same things day in day out. Why not then tap into the power of routines that can help you spend less time on the obvious and focus on the important stuff that requires your mental energy. You need to have routines in your life because they help you to stay organized and on top of your game.

Some of the routines you can have are morning routines. This can comprise of what time you get up, what you do when you get up, what breakfast you have each day and what time you leave the house for work or school drop off. A night routine can consist of what exactly you do the night before to ensure that the morning runs smoothly.

I have also seen people who go ahead and create home management binders to ensure that they have structures of how they take care of their homes. They have yearly, quarterly, monthly and daily schedules. Please check out this video as Cas explains her home management binder. She also offers the printables free on her blog.

#4. The fourth way to organize your life is to embrace simplicity and live with less

I think we tend to complicate things a lot these days. First of all, we want too much and yet we have little time to make use of all the stuff we have. Nothing causes disorganization like having a lot of stuff. It delays the decision-making process as you have to sort through too many things. This then affects your time management and sends you down a spiral you do not want to go on. In addition, it robs you of the beauty of your possessions. When you have too much stuff it becomes difficult to see the forest for the trees.

Living a simple life means knowing what matters to you and making time for that and only that. It requires you to aim at having quality experiences with minimum stuff. These days everywhere you look there is something being sold or being offered with promises that it will simplify your life. If you are not intentional with what your life should be like, you may end up confused.

#5. The fifth way to organize your life is to live within your means

If you have followed this blog for a while, you know that one of the things I advocate for is having a budget. Show me a person who is struggling financially and I will show you someone who has no idea where their money goes at the end of the month. A budget allows you to make optimum use of your resources and thus live within your means. It tells you whether you can afford something or have to save for a while in order to have it.

When you have debt collectors knocking on your door all the time, it inevitably disorganizes you. If you have never tried budgeting before, I invite you to download my FREE budget sheet and stick to it for at least 90 days. I promise you it will change your life.

#6. The sixth way to organize your life is to ask and accept help when it is offered

This tip may seem obvious but it is not. How many times have you struggled to get something done and yet you are surrounded by people willing to help. From asking your spouse to help with the housework to enlisting the kids to participate in ensuring that the systems and routines you have in place work. Some times all you need to do is ask!

Not everyone is gifted with coming up with systems but there are plenty of people in the world today who are and are willing to share how they do it. All you need to do is find these people and try out what they are offering.

Finally,

The seventh way to organize your life is to always maintain an open mindset. When you go through life with an open mind, it means you are willing to learn from anyone, anytime.

A couple of months ago, I was watching a video in which someone shared how they back up their computer files every month. Now as a blogger I have an app doing this for my blog every month but what about the files on my computer? Anyway, I took the tip and backed up the files I know I use often. As fate would have it, a month later my laptop crashed. Although I lost some information, the damage was not as bad as it would have been had I not taken that clue and backed up some documents. Someone once said intuition is God\’s way of speaking to us. I am glad I acted on that intuition that day.

The benefits of having an organized life are enormous. You are able to live a simple and fulfilled life since you are accomplishing the goals you set and live within your means.

I would love to know what do you do to ensure that you live an organized life. Please share in the comments section.
