We Can All Be Noble Women (Part 4)

This week we finish our Noble Women Series by reminding ourselves that we are \”fearfully and wonderfully made\”  and should therefore behave as such.

We started this series with Part 1 where we defined the term noble woman and concluded that the road to becoming a noble woman is one we can all take.

In Part 2 the lessons from the woman in Proverbs 31 helped shade light on the fact that we each have different gifts and when you use them effectively they can help you become a noble woman.

We then learnt in Part 3 that sometimes on the journey of life, you need someone to guide you or a sounding board to test your ideas on and this often comes in form of a mentor.

It seems befitting that we close this series by reflecting on the poem below.

A lot of interpretations flow from this poem and the internet is awash with the same. In order to bring our Noble Women Series to a close let us reflect on these two points.

1. You Matter Because You Are A Product of The Creator

I believe what Maya Angelou was trying to communicate in this poem is true beauty does not emanate from externalities like the clothes you wear or the colour of your skin. It comes from within. It results from you coming to the knowledge that as a product of the Creator you are enough and can accomplish whatever you set your mind to.

You should know your worth and refuse to let other people determine it for you. Purpose to move away from trying to fit into other people\’s descriptions of you which often makes you loose sight of who you are.

Granted we all have struggles or baggage that keeps us from being the very best we were created to be. The work cut out for us is to rid ourselves of this baggage and live life to the full as it was meant to be. Often times you may not be able to do this alone but with the help of mentors, coaches, friends, sisters, mothers and so on you can overcome any challenge.

2. In Order To Receive You Have To Ask

How many times have we failed to get what we wanted or what is rightfully ours because we failed or feared to ask. I like what Oprah Winfrey said  \” you get what you have the courage to ask for \”.

This week I had an encounter where I received because I dared to ask. I have been on the market for a particular wallet and I spotted it in a Le Tanneur store. Upon checking my savings and establishing I could afford it, I walked into the store and requested for a discount. The owner of the store asked if I was on her SMS list and whether I had got a message from the store. I responded  that I had not but was requesting for a discount since it was Mother\’s Day week and I wanted to buy myself a present. She found this interesting and I explained that I occasionally treat myself and had just finished running a workshop therefore, I deserved a treat. In the end she gave me the discount and I walked away with my gift. Had I not been optimistic and instead thought it is a high end store no haggling takes place here, I would have paid full price.

Many times as women we hold ourselves back whether it is speaking up for a well deserved promotion or equal pay or requesting for what is rightfully ours. If we are to live our lives as noble women we have to come to the realisation that we equally deserve what our male counterparts sometimes feel is rightfully theirs.

I hope you have enjoyed this series and come to the realisation that each of us as women can indeed be noble. The ball will always be in your court to remember you are gifted differently and choose to play to your strengths. When you recall that no one makes it alone, you will seek out people you admire and ask that they mentor you. Finally we have reminded ourselves that we are products of the Creator and partner with him to bring life to his creations. You should therefore hold yourself in high esteem and know that you matter.

Glad you have been touched Julie. We are all work in progress let us keep aiming high and bring out the best in ourselves.

  2. I have greatly enjoyed the four-part series on “We can all be Noble Women” – thank you for sharing your insights and inspiration. May the Lord continue to spur you to greater heights as you positively impact lives. My main takeaway is the fact that becoming a Noble Woman is a journey and not a destination. It is important for me to keep moving forward in my quest to be a noble woman, I need to keep growing, I need to keep stretching and exercising the numerous gifts I have been blessed with to positively impact my circle of influence , and as the adage goes, “practice makes perfect”. Indeed reflecting on being “fearfully and wonderfully made” resonates with the lyrics from a recent song from Casting Crowns “we were made for so much more than ordinary lives, it is time for us to more than just survive, we were made to THRIVE ( emphasis mine)”. May we THRIVE as we journey toward being noble women by His grace.
